1 ) LIGHT & BRIGHT
Add light accent colors with pillows and decorative objects to keep the room bright. Aside from your accent color, keep the majority of the room neutral and avoid dark tones.
2 ) ACCENT CHAIR
Accent furniture adds dimension to the room creating separate areas for the eye to follow. A simple pattern or light accent color will do the trick.
3 ) DELICATE FURNITURE
Add furniture with thin and defined legs for a more open appearance. SAY NO to BULKY!
4 ) METALLICS
Being reflective, adding silver or gold to a room creates the illusion of a larger space.
5 ) LIGHT FLOORING
Add a light neutral colored carpet to lighten the room. Off-white or beige often works well.
6 ) SOFT ACCENTS
Add soft throws and figurines in the room to lighten the feel. Faux fur throws in cream will add brightness and comfort to the room.
7 ) LIGHTING
Keep your curtains open to allow in as much natural light as possible. It also helps to hang them high, close to the edge of the ceiling. Otherwise, add tall floor lights and/or ceiling lights in order to maximize light reach in the room.
8 ) MULTIPURPOSE
Add an ottoman to your room. It can serve as the accent color in the room while being used for storage, seating, foot stool, and a coffee table, all in one! Fold up side tables are also a great addition to living rooms that combine as a dining room. Something you can put aside nicely when not in use for more space.
9 ) FLOOR TO CEILING
While you want to avoid bulky… placing a floor to ceiling corner shelf will help draw the eye up, thus giving a larger feel to the room. This also goes for hanging wall art all the way up to the edge of the ceiling.
10 ) AVOID EXCESS
Avoid too many colors or excess patterns as this can make the room too busy. If you’d like to use multiple colors, try using different shades of a color such as light blue to navy blue.
